The Kwara State Police Command has made significant strides in the pursuit of justice for Mojisola Awesu, a young graduate of the Kwara State College of Health Technology, who met a tragic end. The Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, announced the arrest of seven individuals allegedly involved in her murder. The 21-year-old was reportedly lured to Ilorin, the state capital, under the pretense of acting as a girlfriend at a party organized by Adebayo Happiness, a dismissed student of Summit University, Offa. Mojisola was promised a payment of N15,000 for her participation, but instead of earning this fee, she was brutally murdered in a hotel room on Friday, August 9, 2024.
The quest for justice took a critical turn when the police paraded the suspects at the command’s headquarters in Ilorin. Among those arrested was Adebayo Happiness, identified as the prime suspect. His parents, Pastor Adebayo Adeniyi and Mrs. Bukola Adeniyi, were also apprehended, along with a female accomplice, Miss Kolawola Timileyin, who played a role in connecting Mojisola to the suspect. Moreover, three hotel workers—Adeoye Adeola, Lawal Amina, and Bulus Peter—were detained for their alleged involvement in the crime.
Commissioner Olaiya elaborated on the investigation, revealing that the murder had been meticulously planned and executed. After the crime was committed, Adebayo Happiness returned to Offa, where he attempted to hide evidence by concealing Mojisola’s stolen iPhone in his hostel wardrobe. His parents, in an apparent bid to protect their son, retrieved his belongings from the school. Mrs. Adeniyi was found to have removed the SIM card from Mojisola’s iPhone, hiding it within a wall near their home. Contrary to the suspect’s claim that he had thrown the phone into the Afelele River, Offa, both the phone and the SIM card were recovered from his parents’ possession.
The investigation further uncovered that the hotel staff, who discovered Mojisola’s body in the room, unlawfully disposed of her remains at a nearby refuse dump. This shocking revelation not only underscores the severity of the crime but also raises questions about the involvement of the hotel in concealing such a heinous act. The complicity of the hotel workers in this tragedy suggests a deliberate effort to obstruct justice.
As the investigation deepens, the Kwara State Police Command has pledged to bring all those responsible to justice. Commissioner Olaiya assured the public that the suspects would be duly charged in court and made to face the full weight of the law. He emphasized the command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring justice is served and maintaining peace and security in the community.
The public can be confident that this case is being handled with the utmost seriousness. The Kwara State Police Command continues to work tirelessly to uncover the full truth and hold all those involved accountable. As justice for Mojisola unfolds, the community remains watchful, hopeful that her death will not go unpunished. Further updates on this tragic case will be provided as the investigation progresses, reinforcing the message that justice will be served, no matter how long it takes.
