Driver Speeds, Hits FRSC Officer In Osun, And Runs Away

A driver travelling at high speed along Osogbo/Gbongan Road near the Osun Government Secretariat in Abere injured an officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Friday. The incident occurred as FRSC officers stationed at a roadblock near the Osun Sector Headquarters signaled the driver to halt, but he ignored their instructions.

The driver, maneuvering a Lexus Jeep, recklessly collided with the FRSC officer and continued driving, dragging the officer along the road until he eventually fell off the vehicle. Eyewitnesses, local traders named Fatai and Ramota Olagunju, who were near the scene, recounted that the driver callously fled towards Akoda Junction without stopping to check on the injured officer.

According to Fatai, the incident transpired between 9:00 am and 9:30 am that Friday morning. The driver, traveling from Osogbo towards Gbongan, encountered the FRSC roadblock close to the corps’ headquarters. Despite signals to halt, the driver chose to accelerate towards one of the officers, striking him in the process. The officer was then dragged along the road as the vehicle sped away.

“The officer sustained serious injuries and eventually fell off the vehicle,” Fatai explained. “His colleagues quickly mobilized to chase after the fleeing vehicle, but it’s uncertain if they managed to apprehend the driver.”

Confirming the incident, FRSC Osun Sector Commander, Inyang Umoh, assured that the injured officer was in stable condition. “The officer is currently stable. We are actively pursuing the driver involved in this hit-and-run incident,” Umoh stated to City Round.

Efforts to locate and apprehend the driver remain ongoing, with Umoh emphasizing the FRSC’s commitment to ensuring justice for their injured colleague.
