The Ekiti state government has launched an ambitious initiative to provide vital surgical care at no cost to its residents, marking a significant step towards improving healthcare accessibility and outcomes across the state.
Dr. Oyebanji Filani, Ekiti’s Commissioner for Health, announced the commencement of this comprehensive free surgical mission, emphasizing its role in addressing the healthcare needs of all residents, especially those underserved and financially disadvantaged. This initiative aims to deliver a wide range of surgical services including hernia repairs, appendectomies, fibroid removal, lump excisions, caesarian sections, and other critical procedures. The surgeries will be carried out at selected hospitals equipped with advanced facilities and staffed by qualified medical professionals to ensure safe and effective outcomes.
“The launch of this free surgical mission emphasiz our commitment to enhancing healthcare access and improving health outcomes for the people of Ekiti state,” stated Dr. Filani. He highlighted the program’s objectives which include not only providing necessary surgical interventions but also addressing conditions that significantly impact quality of life and overall health.
To enroll in the program, eligible residents are encouraged to visit primary healthcare facilities in their respective wards where registration is currently underway. Dr. Filani emphasized that patients will need to present their National Identification Number (NIN) and a passport photograph during enrollment to facilitate seamless processing.
Post-surgical follow-up and rehabilitation services will be integral to the program, ensuring patients receive comprehensive care throughout their recovery journey. This approach aims to minimize complications and maximize recovery outcomes, thereby promoting long-term health and well-being.
Dr. Filani expressed gratitude to Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his unwavering support and approval of the free surgical mission.
