A health worker, Umar Mohammed, was brutally attacked and stabbed in the head by hoodlums during a wedding ceremony in Niger State. The tragic incident took place in the Gbegenu Area of Minna last Friday when Mohammed, who was on his way back from work at a private clinic, decided to stop by the wedding.

Niger State has been facing ongoing issues with hoodlums and other miscreants causing chaos, especially in the capital city of Minna. These criminals have been terrorizing residents, leading to injuries and deaths. The situation has kept security agents in the state on high alert as they strive to control the violence.

An eyewitness and resident of Gbegenu, Haruna Aminu, recounted the harrowing event. According to Aminu, the health worker, Mohammed had just arrived at the wedding and had only been there for a few minutes when the hoodlums, armed with dangerous weapons, stormed the area. “I saw when Umar came there. He was returning from the private clinic where he worked. I cannot say whether he wanted to stay or continue his movement,” Aminu said.

It wasn’t long before the hoodlums, numbering over ten, began shouting and brandishing their weapons, causing panic. Many people at the wedding tried to escape, but some were injured in the commotion. Mohammed attempted to leave the scene, but one of the hoodlums chased after him and stabbed him in the head with a dagger. He fell to the ground, bleeding profusely from the wound.

Mohammed was immediately rushed to the Minna General Hospital. Despite the efforts of the medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The Niger State Police Command was contacted, and the spokesman, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident. He reported that two suspects were arrested in connection with Mohammed’s killing, while others managed to escape and are still being pursued by the authorities.

In a WhatsApp message, Abiodun provided details of the attack: “On 17/5/2024 at about 2200hrs, it was reported at Kpakungu Division that there was a wedding ceremony at Gbegenu area.
