Mother Arrested For Child-Selling Attempt With Her Three-Year-Old Daughter

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old woman, Yetunde Gbadebo, for engaging in child-selling. The incident took place on Aladiye Street in Sagamu, where Gbadebo was caught attempting to sell her three-year-old daughter. The arrest happened on July 25, 2024, around 10:00 AM.

According to reports from our correspondent, the police were alerted by a concerned resident who witnessed Gbadebo negotiating the sale of her child with a 38-year-old man named Sunday None. The negotiation involved a hefty price of N700,000 for the toddler. Following the tip-off, a team of detectives from the Sagamu Division swiftly responded to the scene and apprehended both individuals involved.

During the investigation, Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, revealed that while Yetunde Gbadebo denied the allegations of child-selling, Sunday None admitted to his involvement in the crime. The police spokesperson detailed how Gbadebo was in the process of selling her daughter to another individual, a situation which was reported by a vigilant resident who had seen the transaction taking place.

The case has now been transferred to the state Criminal Investigation Department for further examination once preliminary findings are concluded. This development highlights the serious issue of child-selling, which has recently been a concern in various regions.

In January 2024, a similar case was reported by ULTIMATEBLOG Metro. In Anambra State, a 38-year-old woman named Chinyere Chukwu was arrested for attempting to sell her two sons, aged nine and seven. Chukwu allegedly conspired with her 17-year-old daughter, Joy Chukwu, to sell the boys to Mrs. Ify Obinabo, the Anambra State Women and Social Welfare Commissioner, who had been tipped off about the illegal transaction.

These cases underscore a troubling trend in child-selling, where individuals exploit their own children for financial gain. The authorities remain vigilant and continue to address such crimes to protect vulnerable children and bring perpetrators to justice.
