In the small town of Nkpor Uno, nestled within the Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, a tragic incident unfolded within the premises of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. The protagonist of this unfortunate event was none other than David Isaac, a security guard employed by the church.
Reports suggest that David Isaac, while on duty, encountered a teenager whose identity remains shrouded in mystery. It was alleged that a confrontation between the security guard and the young church member culminated in a fatal stabbing, resulting in the untimely demise of the latter. This distressing occurrence transpired under the cloak of darkness, around 8 pm on a Tuesday evening.
The unsettling details of this incident were brought to light through a viral video circulating on social media platforms. In the footage, an unidentified narrator recounts the sequence of events, casting blame on the church for entrusting its security to David Isaac.
Upon visiting the church premises, our correspondent noted an eerie atmosphere, with only a handful of parishioners cautiously navigating the somber surroundings. An informant within the church, speaking on condition of anonymity, divulged that David Isaac, employed by a private security firm, purportedly wielded a dagger during a confrontation with the victim inside the church’s chapel. Tragically, the victim succumbed to his injuries before reaching the nearest medical facility.
According to accounts from witnesses, the altercation erupted when David Isaac allegedly discovered the victim and a female companion engaged in what appeared to be a compromising situation within the sacred confines of the chapel. Despite the victim’s protestations of innocence, asserting their engagement in prayer rather than illicit activities, tensions escalated into a physical altercation.
As news of the incident spread throughout the community, shock and grief permeated the air. Residents lamented the unforeseen tragedy, expressing disbelief at the circumstances surrounding the victim’s demise. Questions lingered as to the true nature of the encounter within the chapel and the events leading up to the fatal confrontation.
Efforts to seek clarity from the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Peter Okoli, were futile, as he remained inaccessible during our correspondent’s visit. However, a reliable source within the parish, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that David Isaac had been apprehended by the authorities and handed over to the local police for further investigation.
In the wake of the incident, the church implemented heightened security measures to mitigate potential unrest, as friends and relatives of the victim voiced their intent to protest. The specter of violence loomed as threats to vandalize the chapel emerged amidst the community’s collective grief.
Confirming the occurrence, Divisional Police Officer Frank Amobi disclosed that the security guard, David Isaac was indeed in custody, though he refrained from divulging additional details. Further inquiries were redirected to the state police spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, who cited a lack of comprehensive information pending the completion of the investigative process.
